More and more people use internet technologies and social media to learn and share information about all aspects of their lives, including their experiences as prospective trial jurors. To ensure that prospective jurors are not exposed to outside information that might bias their decision-making during a trial, judges and lawyers must educate jurors about whether and how they may use the internet and social media that preserves the fairness and integrity of the trial. This short video can supplement judges’ in-court instructions and admonitions by alerting jurors about the risks of inappropriate use of the internet and social media. It can be shown either during routine juror orientation before jurors are sent to a courtroom for jury selection or as part of the judge’s instruction to the jury venire.
